December 2011.

I have re-vamped this page after discovering the SoundCloud website which allows me to post mp3 files and access them without having to store all the data on my site.  I was perfectly happy using the embedded mp3 player I had on the page here but each time I wanted to add tunes it was a fairly big undertaking, uploading the new files and editing the tune list;  it also took up space on my site!  I hope to keep the tune list much better populated from now and with other instruments and players.  Simply by adding a tune to SoundCloud it will be accessible from this page.

The tunes posted are still mainly demonstrations of the instruments I have built, and are largely Scottish and Irish in origin.

Just click on the logo to go to the SoundCloud page.  My tunes are listed under my SoundCloud label, Mandosounds.  At the time of updating this page, December 2011, I have 50 tunes posted and they are able to be downloaded from the SoundCloud page should you wish.

Enjoy!

The recordings have all been made using Reaper DAW installed on a laptop running on Windows XP.  Most feature multi-tracking.  The room is the usual spare bedroom set-up and I sometimes use a bit of sound deadening by hanging the usual duvet or other cover in strategic areas of the room!

I record using an Edirol UA25 interface or a Phonic Helix Board 12 Firewire Mk2 into the laptop and use a variety of microphones including an AVG Perception 120, a T-Bone SC400 and a couple of Samsons, a CO1 and CO3.

The wav files, which are recorded at 24 bit, 44,100 kHz, are mixed to Reaper project files then rendered to mp3 format in Reaper before uploading them to my SoundCloud page.  I feel there is no great loss in quality by rendering to mp3, and the files are mainly to let folk hear the instruments.
